I Can Help You Drive Someone to Insanity
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to rule over someone? To make someone your slave? Well aren’t you just lucky... you’ve found the perfect place! If you want to learn how to drive a special someone to insanity, here are three basic steps to help you accomplish your goal:
Step 1: Isolate Them From The World
This step will be challenging, your person will want to fight back. But be patient, they will soon fall under you. You will soon be able to control them. They think that life is how they make it, but it’s actually how YOU make it for them. By controlling who they talk to, who they see, where they go, and how long they are able to be gone, you will soon start to see the insanity shine through.
For example, Gilman wrote in her short story a Yellow Wallpaper, “for there are hedges and walls and gates that lock, and lots of separate little houses for the gardeners and people” (Page 1). You see the isolation in the story starting to begin. The locks show that someone else--her husband--controls when she can, and can not leave. The separate houses resemble the lack of communication between the people. When someone can’t control where they go, who they talk to, or who they see, they feel as if they are less of a person and more of a robot. That's a good thing. You want them to feel this way. This first step must be completed if you want to be successful.

Step 2: Ignore Them
Believe it or not, this step may be hard for you...only at first of course. You’ll feel bad because you’ll hear their crying-begging for you to listen. But after awhile, that crying will just be in their head and you won’t have to hear it anymore. Then, it will be MUCH easier. Ignoring someone makes them feel invisible. Like they’re a dead person. They can see you, but you can’t see them--or hear them.
As seen in Gilman's short story, she writes “It is so hard to talk with John about my case, because he is so wise, and because he loves me so” (Page 6). The wife has fallen under his spell. She no longer sees that he is isolating her. She feels that he is doing this because its whats best for her. Don’t feel bad if your person doesn't view you this way yet. They'll soon start to idolize you. You will be their "genius" before you know it. If you are feeling nervous about this step-like you aren’t strong enough for it-here is an article I found that helped me. If you were strong enough for this step, congratulations. You’re one step closer.

Step 3: Take Away Any Object They May Have Access To
By “object,” I mean cell phone, journal, book, even just one piece of paper. If they can't post, write, or even read about their emotions...they'll start to feel like their world is shrinking, like no one is there to listen and care. They need to know that nobody is there. If they feel like someone can help them, they won't become 100% insane.
Gilman wrote "There comes John, and I must put this away,--he hates to have me write a word" (Page 3). Although Jane didn’t have her journal taken completely from her, she still has limited access to it. This was an extreme part of this story. That was all she had left. Now it’s gone. Now she’s alone. She is one step closer insanity. You HAVE to follow exactly what the husband did to Jane, except allow them to have NO access to it. They will then officially become alone. The voices in their head will grow. They will start to see their emotions dance on the wall. They will become insane. You have officially won this battle.

Congratulations! I hope you found my tips helpful and will share them with others. It’s been a long journey to get here, but you did it. Be proud. Take pride in all the hard work you’ve done--not everyone can do this. Now that you’ve read all my steps and accomplished your goals, be sure of one thing... don’t fall victim to isolation yourself.
